Located in Dayi County on the western Chengdu Plain, Anren Ancient Town boasts a history of over 1,380 years and is honored as China’s only Museum Town. It features intact streets lined with 27 well-preserved mixed-style mansions built in the Republic of China era, together with two core landmark attractions: Liu’s Manor Museum and Jianchuan Museum Cluster. Blending ancient architectural relics, massive historical cultural collections, traditional teahouses and folk catering, it fully records the modern history of western Sichuan and delivers immersive retro cultural travel experiences for visitors.
Travel Tips
- Free access to the ancient streets; separate tickets are required for Liu’s Manor and Jianchuan Museum Cluster.
- Take intercity trains or self-drive vehicles to reach the town from downtown Chengdu conveniently.
- Do not damage ancient mansion walls, carved door frames and historic architectural relics.
- Flash photography and tripods are banned inside exhibition halls to protect precious cultural relics.
- Rent cheongsam for retro shooting only at officially licensed stores on the streets.
- Follow staff instructions when riding the vintage tram running through the old streets.
