Also named Qiaokalake Lake, Baisha Lake sits at an altitude of 3300 meters in Bulunkou Township, Akto County along G314 China-Pakistan Friendship Highway. Surrounded by milky white sand mountains formed by wind erosion and backed by the snow-capped Kongur Tagh peaks, its glacial meltwater shifts from turquoise to sapphire blue under different sunlight. The scenic area includes a paid south bank with lakeside wooden boardwalks and a free north bank overlook offering full panoramic shots, presenting a rare contrasting landscape of pure white sand, vivid blue water and towering snow mountains on the Pamir Plateau.
Travel Tips
- Visitors aged 65 and above enjoy free entrance ticket with official ID, only pay the shuttle bus fee if needed.
- This area belongs to borderland; all visitors must carry valid border passes before entering.
- The plateau altitude exceeds 3300m with intense UV radiation and fierce wind; prepare sunscreen, hats and thick windproof coats.
- Do not step off designated boardwalks or climb sand dunes to avoid slipping and damaging fragile sand landscapes.
- Flash photography near the lake surface is not allowed to protect water ecology.
- Summer mosquitoes breed heavily by the lake; carry mosquito repellent spray.
- No littering by the lakeshore; all garbage must be taken away to protect the plateau wetland.
