About
Covering over 80 hectares, it accommodates more than 5,000 wild animals of roughly 400 species. The star attraction is the Giant Panda House, home to the celebrity panda Meng Lan and other giant pandas. Major exhibition zones include Lion & Tiger Hill, Giraffe Enclosure, Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Hall and Waterfowl Lake. Blending wildlife popular science, ancient garden landscapes and century-old historic architecture, it is a classic family-friendly destination for animal observation and leisure sightseeing in central Beijing.
Travel Tips
- Book tickets in advance via official WeChat mini-program; identity verification is required for preferential tickets
- Metro Line 4 Zoo Station is highly recommended; parking spaces are extremely tight on weekends and holidays
- Do not feed animals, tap exhibition glass or make loud noises to avoid disturbing wildlife
- Flash photography is forbidden near animal enclosures
- Arrive before 10:00; animals are far more active in the morning
- Purchase the combo ticket for direct access to the Giant Panda House to save time
- Beijing Aquarium at the north gate requires separate admission tickets
- Drones are prohibited within the entire scenic area
- Some historic buildings such as Changguanlou are closed every Monday for maintenance
