Bell Tower of Xi'an

Constructed in 1384 during the Ming Hongwu reign and relocated to the present crossroads of four main city streets in 1582, this 36-meter brick-and-wood tower is a national key cultural relic. Built with intricate mortise and tenon dougong brackets without nails, it features triple green glazed tile eaves and a golden spire. In ancient times, huge bronze bells were struck at dawn to open city gates, matching the Drum Tower’s sunset drum beats. Visitors can climb the tower for panoramic views of the old town, while its splendid ancient architecture and profound timekeeping culture make it the most iconic symbol of Xi’an.
