About
Originally the imperial Buddhist temple of the Dali Kingdom, 9 emperors of the Dali Kingdom once retreated to practice Buddhism here, earning it the honorable title of "Buddhist Capital" in the Nanzhao and Dali periods.
The most precious core relic is the three ancient pagodas standing for over 1,300 years. The main Qianxun Pagoda was built in the Tang Dynasty with a height of 69 meters, and the two auxiliary smaller pagodas were constructed in the Song Dynasty at 42 meters high, forming a stable triangular layout. Having survived more than 30 major earthquakes, they are miraculous architectural treasures of ancient southwest China. The existing grand temple complex was reconstructed in 2005, decorated with over 10,000 dragon carvings, ranking first nationwide in dragon-themed decorations. Different from natural mountain scenery, it integrates millennium Buddhist relics, royal temple architecture, Bai ethnic culture and panoramic Cang-Er landscape. It can be combined with Cangshan Mountain cable car tour and Erhai Lake cruise to form a classic Dali one-day cultural and natural sightseeing route.
