Located in Dazu District of Chongqing, Dazu Rock Carvings is a world-famous ancient grotto treasure created from the late Tang Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1999. Centered on Baodingshan and Beishan carving zones, it preserves over 50,000 vivid stone statues carved on mountain cliffs. Different from northern Chinese grottoes, the sculptures here combine Buddhist teachings with local folk life scenes, presenting delicate facial expressions, detailed clothing carvings and complete moral storytelling reliefs. Integrating three major Chinese religious cultures, it stands as a masterpiece of oriental cliff sculpture art and an irreplaceable historical carrier of ancient southwest Chinese religious civilization.
