Dianchi Lake

Dianchi Lake, located on the southern outskirts of Kunming, is a national scenic area and the largest highland freshwater lake in Yunnan Province, with the sleeping beauty Western Hills forming a stunning backdrop across the water. Most lakeside zones including Haigeng Dam, Baofeng Wetland and Yuyi River Wetland are open to visitors free of charge all day long. From November to March, tens of thousands of red-billed gulls migrate here from Siberia for winter, creating a beloved human-bird interaction attraction. Visitors can cycle along the lakeside greenway, stroll through flower-filled wetlands, watch sunset reflections on the lake, or take optional paid lake cruises and Xishan cable car rides for panoramic overhead lake views.
