About
Famous for the daunting 108 winding hairpin bends leading uphill, it is the only viewing platform worldwide that overlooks five 8000-meter-level snow peaks simultaneously, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Shishapangma. It is the iconic landmark and must-stop highlight on the Everest west line self-driving itinerary.
Travel Tips
- Only reachable by self-driving, chartered car or group tour
- Prepare a valid border pass for border checkpoint inspection
- Slow down all movements to avoid altitude sickness at over 5200 meters elevation
- Wear warm windproof outerwear, high-factor sunscreen and UV-protective sunglasses against strong wind and ultraviolet rays
- Stay on paved viewing platforms; do not climb loose gravel slopes for safety
- Fly drones only in open flat areas and abide by border zone regulations
- Respect local customs around prayer flags and mani stone piles
- Take all garbage away to protect plateau ecology
- Decline overpriced prayer flag sales to cut extra costs
