Hanshan Temple

First built during the Liang Dynasty over 1400 years ago, it was renamed after the Tang Dynasty monk Hanshan who once resided here. It gains worldwide fame from the classic Tang poem A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge written by poet Zhang Ji, especially the well-known midnight bell described in the verse. Core highlights include the Bell Tower with a huge bronze bell, Stele Corridor carved with the poem’s calligraphies, Puming Pagoda and Hanshi Hall. Adjacent to the free Maple Bridge scenic area, it perfectly integrates Buddhist culture, classical poetry and tranquil Jiangnan canal scenery, ranking among China’s top ten renowned ancient temples.
