About
Built in the early Ming Dynasty over 500 years ago by retired official Wang Xianchen, it was designed to embody the reclusive pastoral ideal of ancient literati. Centered on expansive ponds, the garden is divided into three zones: the spacious East Garden, the exquisite core Middle Garden and the delicate West Garden.
Iconic landmarks include Yuanxiang Hall (the main hall), Xiaofehong Covered Bridge, Xiangzhou Stone Boat, Thirty-Six Mandarin Ducks Hall and the fan-shaped With Whom Shall I Sit Pavilion. With layered waters, winding corridors, exquisite Taihu rockeries and elegant pavilions, it fully represents the supreme aesthetic of Chinese classical garden layout and landscaping art.
