Hunan Museum (Hunan Provincial Museum)

It is the largest comprehensive history and art museum in Hunan and one of the key national-level museums co-built by central and local governments, globally renowned for the unparalleled cultural relics unearthed from the Mawangdui Western Han Tombs. Unlike natural scenic spots, it focuses on inheriting and displaying thousands of years of Huxiang civilization, Chu culture and Han Dynasty royal life. Its two core permanent exhibitions are *Mawangdui Han Tombs Exhibition* and *The Hunan People: History and Culture of Sanxiang Basin*. World-famous treasures including the well-preserved mummy of Lady Xin Zhui, the unlined plain gauze silk robe, painted wooden lacquer coffins, silk manuscripts and bronze ritual vessels are on full display, vividly restoring the sophisticated craftsmanship and noble lifestyle of the early Western Han Dynasty.
