About
Jiutian Cave sits in Shuidong Village, Lifuta Town of Sangzhi County, affiliated to the Maoyan River scenic cluster. This 4A karst cave covers over 2.5 million square meters, split into three vertical layers with 40 grand underground halls, 3 underground rivers, dozens of waterfalls and countless vivid stalactites and stalagmites. It is an official exploration base of the International Speleological Society, with a constant internal temperature of 18°C all year round. The full sightseeing loop has gentle walkways suitable for all ages, and it requires a separate admission ticket plus mandatory shuttle bus fee to reach the cave entrance.
Travel Tips
- The cave interior stays cool all year, bring a lightweight windproof jacket even in summer heat.
- Stone paths inside the cave are damp and slippery; non-slip flat shoes are required, high heels are forbidden.
- Do not touch, knock or damage stalactites and stalagmites to protect millions-year-old karst geological relics.
- Private vehicles cannot drive directly to the cave gate; all tourists must transfer via the scenic shuttle bus at the visitor center parking lot.
- Extra fees apply for professional photography equipment and private customized cave exploration routes.
- Seniors aged 65 and above get free cave entry by presenting identity cards; shuttle bus fees still apply.
