Situated in Lushar Town, Huangzhong District of Xining, Ta'er Monastery is one of China’s six major Gelug Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, built on the birthplace of Tsongkhapa. The complex features grand golden-roofed halls, white pagodas and courtyards, and its three unique artistic treasures—thangka, mural and butter sculpture—attract tourists and pilgrims all year round. A unified entrance ticket is required for visiting core temple buildings.

- Tourists aged 70 and above get free admission by presenting ID documents.
- Paid parking at the scenic entrance; regular shuttle buses run from downtown Xining.
- High altitude with strong UV rays; bring sunscreen, hats and warm outerwear for temperature shifts.
- No photography inside Buddha halls; flash and tripods are strictly forbidden to protect artworks.
- Follow Tibetan customs: tour clockwise, avoid stepping over thresholds, speak softly near shrines.
- Do not touch butter sculptures, Buddha statues and religious artifacts.
