Located in Yongjing County, Linxia Prefecture, 75 km from Lanzhou, Liujiaxia Reservoir, also named Bingling Lake, is formed by China’s first self-designed large Liujiaxia Hydropower Dam. Famous for its crystal clear blue Yellow River water, it features the stunning Huang-Tao River Confluence where green Tao River meets yellow Yellow River, red Danxia cliffs along the lakeshore, Taiji Island wetland and the dock for boats heading to Bingling Temple Grottoes. Combining industrial hydropower heritage, rare clear river scenery and canyon geology, it is a core stop for Yellow River culture and Silk Road tours.
Travel Tips
- Strong ultraviolet rays over the lake all year; bring sunscreen, hats and sunglasses.
- Large temperature difference between morning and evening; carry a light windproof jacket even in summer.
- Boat rides may suspend temporarily on windy or rainy days; check weather before departure.
- Wear flat non-slip shoes for lakeside stone paths and dam staircases.
- No swimming or fishing in the reservoir to ensure water safety and water source protection.
