About
Founded in 1958 and fully relocated to the new venue in 2011, it preserves more than 400,000 cultural relics, acting as the most authoritative carrier to interpret the 5,000-year Heluo Civilization and the splendid history of Luoyang, the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties.
Different from natural mountain and grotto scenic spots, it concentrates the essence of Luoyang’s historical heritage through systematic themed exhibitions. The core permanent exhibition is *Heluo Civilization*, which chronologically displays precious artifacts from the prehistoric era, Xia-Shang-Zhou dynasties, Han-Wei periods, Sui-Tang Dynasties to the Five Dynasties and Northern Song Dynasty. Unmissable highlights include the second-floor Treasure Gallery housing the 4-ton nanmu Buddhist pagoda, the iconic hand-in-hand pottery figurines of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Tang tri-color glazed pottery, stone mythical beast sculptures, bronze ritual vessels and stone carving galleries. It is ideal for historical research, cultural study tours, ancient art appreciation and indoor leisure visits, and can be perfectly combined with Longmen Grottoes to form a classic one-day Luoyang cultural itinerary.
