Mogao Grottoes

It is the largest and most well-preserved Buddhist art treasure in the world, carved from the Sixteen Kingdoms period through the Yuan Dynasty over a thousand years. It preserves 735 caves, 45,000 square meters of exquisite murals and more than 2,400 painted sculptures. Core landmarks include the 9-story Giant Buddha Pavilion (Cave 96) with the 35.5-meter Maitreya Buddha, the Library Cave (Cave 17), and dozens of caves renowned for their vivid frescoes. The visiting process starts with two documentary films at the Digital Exhibition Center, followed by a shuttle bus to the cliff grotto area for guided cave tours.
