Mount Hengshan Scenic Area (Northern Great Mountain)

Situated in Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province, Mount Hengshan is one of China’s Five Great Sacred Mountains. The main peak reaches 2016 metres above sea level. Ancient Taoist shrines scatter along mountain ridges. Hanging Temple, its most iconic highlight, was erected in the Northern Wei Dynasty, relying on hidden wooden supports embedded in rock cliffs.
