Mu Ta

Muta Temple, also called Wooden Pagoda Temple, is located in central Zhangye City with a history dating back to the Sui Dynasty. The core attraction is a 32.8-meter nine-story octagonal wooden pagoda built without any iron nails, entirely assembled by mortise and tenon joints. The temple complex integrates ancient halls, courtyards and pagoda architecture from Sui, Tang, Ming and Qing dynasties, housing stone steles, ancient Buddha statues and traditional garden scenery. It stands as one of Zhangye’s three famous ancient pagodas, representing the exquisite wooden construction craftsmanship of the Hexi Corridor.
