About
Backed by the snow-capped Nyenchen Tanglha Range, the lake boasts crystal-clear sapphire-blue water boundless to the horizon.
Zaxi Peninsula is the core visiting zone, dotted with mani stone piles, prayer flags, stone caves and lakeside viewing platforms. It is a sacred pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhism, and also a top high-altitude photography destination famous for sunrise, sunset, starry sky and winter frozen lake ice scenery. The whole area features vast northern Xizang grasslands, wild yaks, sheep and migratory seagulls in cold months, presenting a magnificent primitive plateau wilderness landscape.
Travel Tips
- The most convenient ways are joining a one-day group tour, booking official oxygen-containing through trains
- Paid parking lots are available at the gate, fully occupied during summer peak seasons
- Book tickets in advance via the official WeChat public account or authorized travel platforms
- Wear thick windproof down jackets or hardshell jackets even in summer
- Prepare non-slip sneakers, high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, portable oxygen cylinders and glucose drinks to relieve altitude sickness
- Do not run, jump or overexert yourself on the plateau to avoid altitude reaction
- Do not wash hands or feet in the sacred lake, trample mani piles and prayer flags, or disturb wild animals
- Ask for permission before photographing local pilgrims and herdsmen
- Drones are prohibited in the entire ecological reserve for environmental protection and public safety
