Nanputuo Temple

Renamed in the Qing Dynasty for its location south of Mount Putuo, the sacred Guanyin pilgrimage site, it features grand Minnan-style Buddhist architecture with flying eaves and red walls. Core highlights include the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Avalokitesvara Hall with a thousand-hand Guanyin statue and the scripture depository housing precious Buddhist classics. The front lotus pond with koi fish, towering bodhi trees and cliff stone carvings (including a huge carved Chinese character “Buddha”) add profound cultural charm. The rear Wulao Peaks, listed as one of Xiamen’s Eight Scenic Views, offers a panoramic overlook of Xiamen Bay, Gulangyu Island and the coastal skyline. It is only a 5-minute walk away from Xiamen University Siming Campus, perfectly connecting with Hulishan Cannon Fort and Xiamen Botanical Garden for a complete southern Xiamen cultural and coastal tour.
