Shanxi Assembly Hall

Constructed in the 2nd year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1724), Zhangye Shanxi Guild Hall was funded by Shanxi merchants and reconstructed from an ancient Guandi Temple. It is attached to Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple with no independent outside entrance and can only be accessed from inside the temple scenic zone. Covering around 1,750 square meters, the compound follows a symmetrical central axis layout with a grand opera stage, bell & drum towers, memorial archway and main worship hall. Its signature art lies in elaborate three types of carvings—brick carvings on screen walls, delicate wood carvings on beams, and solid stone carvings on bases, fully recording the prosperous Hexi commercial culture of the Qing Dynasty.
