Travel Tips

• Altitude rises sharply from 3270m to 4449m. Walk slowly without running to avoid altitude sickness; carry portable oxygen tanks for summit sightseeing.
• Mountain boardwalks and viewing platforms turn slippery after snow or rain; wear thick non-slip hiking shoes, slippers and high heels are forbidden.
• The full eight-snow-peak panorama can only be captured on windless sunny mornings before 10 a.m. Thick fog often covers the peak in cloudy afternoons.
• Do not step off wooden railings or climb cliffs for photos; strong gusts on the summit pose falling hazards. Keep children closely supervised at open viewing decks.
• Do not trample alpine pastures, pick wild azaleas, tear prayer flags or litter on the mountain to protect fragile highland ecology.
• Respect local Tibetan religious customs; spin mani stones clockwise and speak softly near sacred prayer flag areas.
