Tiantan (The Temple of Heaven)

The Temple of Heaven is a medieval complex of religious buildings where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties performed annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. Built in 1420, it represents the pinnacle of Chinese architectural achievement. The complex covers 273 hectares, making it four times larger than the Forbidden City. The iconic Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, with its triple-gabled circular roof, is one of China's most recognizable landmarks.
