It is the iconic symbol of Hong Kong, renowned for the spectacular skyline formed by clusters of skyscrapers on both sides of the harbour.
The core highlight is the nightly A Symphony of Lights light and music show, in which more than 40 landmark buildings on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon synchronize lighting, laser beams and background music for a 15-minute grand performance. Classic visiting spots include Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of Stars, Clock Tower, Wan Chai Golden Bauhinia Square and Central Waterfront. Taking the historic Star Ferry across the harbour is a classic must-do experience, offering a panoramic sea-level view of the city’s landscape. It can be perfectly combined with The Peak Tram, Central and Tsim Sha Tsui for a classic Hong Kong Island and Kowloon cross-harbour one-day itinerary.
Travel Tips
- Take MTR Tsuen Wan Line to Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit E for direct access to the waterfront promenade
- Island Line to Wan Chai or Central Station also reaches the harbour viewing areas
- Private car parking near the waterfront is extremely limited, public transport is highly recommended
- Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before 20:00 to reserve a good viewing spot for the light show at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade
- Bring a lightweight windbreaker, as the coastal wind is strong and the temperature drops significantly after sunset
- Drones are strictly prohibited over Victoria Harbour to avoid aviation risks
- Secure mobile phones and cameras firmly against strong sea breezes when walking along the waterfront railing
