Different from the crowded west bank scenic spots, it retains a laid-back pastoral atmosphere with layered hillside dwellings.
Core highlights include the iconic Rainbow Highway stretching straight to the lake, the pure white Hall of the Sea, cliff wooden plank walkways, triangular bougainvillea stepped flower terraces, the ancient Wenbi Tower, and multiple cliff-view cafes and vacation-style photo bases. It is the top hidden sunset viewing site on Erhai’s east loop and can be combined with Shuanglang Ancient Town and Ideal Kingdom for a relaxing eastern lakeside sightseeing trip.
Travel Tips
- Self-driving is the most convenient option: navigate directly to Wenbi Village Visitor Center, around 40 minutes
- Renting an electric scooter from the ancient town for daily lake-loop travel
- All public village lanes, Rainbow Highway, waterfront viewing platforms and Wenbi Tower exterior are completely free
- Wear non-slip flat walking shoes for sloped mountain roads and rugged cliff plank paths
- Plateau ultraviolet radiation is extremely strong, so prepare high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and sun hat
- Stay away from unguarded cliff edges for safety
- Do not pick wild water lettuce and wetland plants to protect Erhai’s ecological environment
- Drone flights are restricted in the lakeside ecological protection zone
