Xidi Gucunluo

Founded in the Northern Song Dynasty, the village forms a unique boat-shaped layout with two streams winding through the alleys. More than 200 well-preserved Ming and Qing residences showcase classic Huizhou architecture, featuring white walls, black tiles, horse-head gables and exquisite brick, stone and wood carvings. Compared with Hongcun, Xidi maintains a quieter atmosphere with less commercial development. The landmark Hu Wenguang Memorial Archway is the only intact stone archway inside the village, a masterpiece of Ming-dynasty stone carving. Core attractions include Mingjing Lake, Dafudi (Manor of Grand Official), Jing’ai Hall, West Garden, East Garden and Zhumu Hall. Artists travel here all year round for sketching. It embodies Huizhou merchant culture, ancient clan rituals and traditional architectural aesthetics, and serves as a wonderful destination for cultural sightseeing, Hanfu photography and ink-wash landscape shooting.
