Located in Dayi County, around 95 kilometers from downtown Chengdu, Xiling Snow Mountain is a national 4A-level mountain scenic area featured in ancient Tang poems by Du Fu. Split into low-altitude forest hiking zones and a high-altitude snow top platform at over 3200 meters, it holds lush primitive forests, cascading waterfalls, vast alpine flower meadows and year-round snow-capped peaks. In winter, it operates large-scale ski fields and snow play parks, while summer brings mild cool weather, blooming wild flowers and panoramic mountain views, offering two totally distinct seasonal experiences for sightseeing, skiing and hiking.
Travel Tips
- Take tourist shuttle buses from Chengdu Jinsha Station or drive 2 hours to reach the scenic spot; two stages of cable cars are required to reach the snowtop viewing platform.
- Prepare warm thick outerwear all year round; temperatures on the high mountain platform stay low even in hot summer.
- Ski gear can be rented at the mountain ski resort; gloves, sunglasses and sun cream are essential to prevent frostbite and strong ultraviolet rays.
- The high-altitude platform may trigger mild altitude sickness; walk slowly and avoid strenuous running.
- Food and supplies on the mountain are pricey; bring small snacks and drinking water for backup.
- Allocate 4 to 6 hours for a full tour including cable car rides, sightseeing and seasonal activities.
