It is one of China’s three major Vinaya Dojo with a perfect integration of solemn Buddhist halls and delicate Jiangnan private garden, known as a tranquil non-commercial Zen sanctuary favored by local residents.
Its core highlight is the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats housing elaborate wooden arhat sculptures from the late Qing Dynasty. The west garden features a lotus pond, ancient tortoises, koi fish, leisurely temple cats and pigeons, together with elegant waterside pavilions and winding corridors. Visitors can taste authentic vegetarian noodles in the canteen and experience slow peaceful temple life away from crowded tourist hotspots, and it sits within walking distance of Lingering Garden and Shantang Street.
