Core highlights include the original Han beacon tower ruins on Antique Beach, Yangguan Museum with systematic Silk Road exhibits, the replica Han pass city, Dufu Mansion for the official border-crossing certificate ceremony, and the vast ancient Yangguan Avenue stretching across the Gobi.
Travel Tips
- Self-driving or chartered car takes about 1 hour from Dunhuang
- Purchase tickets on-site with ID card, no advance online reservation required
- The walking distance from the gate to the relic zone is long, the 10-yuan shuttle bus is highly recommended
- Wear breathable long sleeves, sun protection and sturdy walking shoes to avoid sunburn and sand scratches, and carry enough drinking water for the dry Gobi climate
- Respect historical relics: do not climb or carve on the ancient beacon tower
- Experience the border-crossing document stamping ritual and Han costume rental for immersive ancient frontier atmosphere
- Drones are banned in the entire heritage protection zone
