Also named Rouge Mountain, Yanzhi Mountain sits southeast of Shandan County as a branch of Qilian Mountains, a 4A national forest park with thick pine forests, alpine streams and mild cool summers. In 609 AD, Emperor Yang of Sui hosted a grand gathering for 27 western states here, known as the origin of world expo culture. It preserves Zhongshan Temple and Yuhuang Taoist Temple, carrying profound Silk Road history and ancient frontier stories, with blooming wildflowers in summer and colorful foliage in autumn.

- The scenic zone averages 2900m altitude with big day-night temperature gaps; bring windproof jacket and sunscreen.

- No open flames, wild camping or littering inside forests to protect ecological environment.
- Horse riding and archery are optional paid experiences; choose official vendors to avoid overcharging.
