Yue Fei Temple (Yuewang Temple)

First built in the Southern Song Dynasty in 1221, it is a national key cultural relic protection site constructed to commemorate Yue Fei, the renowned national hero. The scenic area consists of three main sections: Zhonglie Shrine, Qizhong Shrine and the mausoleum zone. Highlights include the statue of Yue Fei in military armour, the famous inscription “Recover Our Lost Homeland”, stone stele corridors housing Yue Fei’s calligraphy works such as Manjianghong, the tombs of Yue Fei and his son Yue Yun, and the iron kneeling statues of Qin Hui and other traitors. The couplet “Green hills are fortunate to bury loyal bones; white iron is innocent to cast treacherous ministers” beside the tomb has endured for centuries. With towering ancient cypresses, solemn ancient buildings and profound patriotic culture, it is an essential cultural landmark along West Lake and a popular destination for patriotic education and historical sightseeing.
