It is widely known for a unique custom that believers offer liquor to the deity.
It is a compact small monastery with strong local folk religious atmosphere. The core custom rule is: pray for safety on Mondays, seek wealth on Wednesdays (the busiest day), and pray for physical health on Fridays. Many business people and tourists come here for blessings, with curling smoke of incense and a strong humanistic flavor all year round.
Travel Tips
- Take bus No.13, 24 or 28 directly to Zhaji Monastery Stop; a taxi from downtown Lhasa costs about 15 RMB
- A small paid parking lot is available at the gate with limited spaces, so public transport is recommended
- The monastery is free of charge and requires no real-name reservation
- Dress in modest long clothes without sleeveless tops or shorts
- No photos or video recording inside the main hall
- Do not step over door sills, speak loudly or point at Buddha statues
- Extinguish incense by fanning gently instead of blowing with your mouth
- Drones are prohibited in the religious protection zone
- Prepare small cash for voluntary alms-giving
