About
Located in the urban area of Zhangye City along the Hei River basin, Zhangye National Wetland Park covers a total area of more than 6,000 mu, serving as a vital ecological buffer for the arid Hexi Corridor. The park features wide reed wetlands, clear lake water, wet grasslands and winding wooden boardwalks. It is a key habitat for hundreds of migratory birds such as wild geese, egrets and mallards throughout spring and autumn. Multiple viewing platforms, bird-watching pavilions and waterfront walking routes are built for visitors, blending natural wetland scenery with urban leisure spaces and showcasing rare inland river wetland landscapes in northwest China.
Travel Tips
- Strong wind and ultraviolet radiation by the water surface; prepare hats, sunscreen and windproof outerwear.
- Do not chase, feed or disturb wild birds, and keep a safe distance to avoid scaring flocks of migratory birds.
- No fishing, swimming or picking wild reeds and aquatic plants to protect wetland ecology.
- Binoculars are recommended for bird watching at the wetland observation pavilions.
- No motor vehicles inside the park; shared bikes and walking are the only allowed transport methods.
- Mosquitoes breed heavily near water in summer; carry mosquito repellent liquid when visiting.
- Garbage must be taken away; littering in wetland waters and grasslands is prohibited.
