Zhangye Xilai Temple

Located in Xilai Temple Lane in southwest Zhangye urban area, Xilai Temple traces its origin to the Tang Dynasty, rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty as Ciyun Retreat and renamed Xilai Temple in the Kangxi reign of Qing Dynasty. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit and the site of Zhangye Buddhist Association. The temple preserves an intact Ming Guanyin Hall with delicate circular wooden caisson ceiling and a Qing Dynasty scripture depository building, combining Han and Tibetan Buddhist architectural styles. With quiet courtyards, ancient cypresses and traditional carved beam structures, it is a peaceful ancient shrine on the ancient Silk Road with profound religious and historical value.
